PARISH NOTES
SUNDAY 19 JUNE 2016

Sebastien Bourdon, Exorcism of the Gerasene Demoniac, 1653

FROM THE RECTOR

At the outbreak of World War II, Bishop George Bell of Chichester (in England) remarked that in times of crisis the primary task of the Church is "to be still the Church" – to do what the Church does. The Church's mission has many dimensions, including fellowship, witness, and service; but first of all come worship and prayer. Much is happening in the world to cause us anxiety. That is all the more reason to come to Mass and participate in the Church's offering of praise and thanksgiving to God, along with prayers and intercessions for the world, and repentance for our own complicity in the ills that beset us. In times of crisis, our greatest service to the world is "to be still the Church," and to do what the Church does. -- Fr. John D. Alexander

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome to all visitors and guests – we’re glad that you’re here. Please join us in the Great Hall upstairs after the 10 am Mass for Coffee Hour, hosted by Alison Huff and family.

The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist (June 24) – a major holy day of the Church Year, will be kept this Friday with Angelus at noon and Low Mass at 12:10 pm.

Coffee Hour Contributions – We regret that owing to new diocesan regulations concerning the handling of cash in parishes, we are no longer able to receive donations at Coffee Hour for coffee, food, and supplies. The donations basket will no longer be available. We thank all those who have contributed to this important ministry. Those who wish to make donations to help defray Coffee Hour expenses are welcome to put a check in the collection plate during Mass, or mail a check to the parish office, with the notation “Coffee Hour” clearly marked in the memo line.

Goodwill Industries – There is a clothing collection box in the Great Hall for the next few weeks on behalf of Goodwill Industries. One of their objectives is helping people in need to find employment, and to that end, they are accepting donations of clothing suitable for job interviews. If you have anything you can contribute, please bring it.
