PARISH NOTES
SUNDAY 5 JUNE 2016
Jesus resurrecting the son of the widow of Nain
Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831)
FROM THE RECTOR
This Sunday begins the "Green Season," more properly known as the Season after Trinity, the Season after Pentecost, and (less felicitously) "Ordinary Time." The green color of the vestments and hangings symbolizes growth and fecundity. It is a time to pay close attention to the readings and prayers prescribed for each Sunday's liturgy as aids to our spiritual growth and development. We begin this Sunday with stories in the Old Testament reading and Gospel of widows whose only sons died and were brought back to life by the prophet Elijah and the Lord Jesus respectively. These stories speak of God's compassion for the most vulnerable members of the human family: a message we need to hear in a world that often seems cruel and indifferent to those who suffer. -- Fr. John D. Alexander

The donations basket will no longer be available. We thank all those who have contributed to this important ministry. Those who wish to make donations to help defray Coffee Hour expenses are welcome to put a check in the collection plate during Mass, or mail a check to the parish office, with the notation “Coffee Hour” clearly marked in the memo line.
Goodwill Industries – There is a clothing collection box in the Great Hall for the next few weeks on behalf of Goodwill Industries.
