ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome to S. Stephen’s – especially to our visitors and guests! We’re glad to have you with us. Please join us for Coffee Hour following the 8 am Mass in the Narthex and following the 10 a.m. Mass in the Great Hall upstairs. If you have any questions or special needs, please speak to one of the ushers, who will be glad to assist you.

Joining us with small children? – We are so glad you are here! Our Sunday School program and nursery care are on hiatus for the summer, but if parents and small children need a break during Mass, please feel free to use the nursery. The ushers can direct you.

College Ministry – Welcome to all new and returning students! The Episcopal Ministry at Brown and RISD (EMBR) kicks off next Sunday, 8 September, with Evening Prayer at 5:30, with dinner and conversation to follow. All undergraduate and graduate students are welcome and invited to attend.

Parking and Traffic Flow on Sunday 1 September – Please note that, due to Brown University Student Move-In, George Street will be one-way traffic traveling East from Brown Street to Thayer. Further, the Brown Department of Safety will be reserving street parking for S. Stephen’s parishioners by placing traffic cones in spaces from the span of the two accessible spaces across the church doors all the way to Thayer Street. Simply move these cones to the side to park in these spaces. Thank you!

Labor Day (September 2nd) – as on all Federal Public Holidays, Low Mass on Monday 2 September will be offered at 10 am, preceded by Morning Prayer at 9:30 am.

Society of Mary – meets this Saturday, 7 September, beginning with Holy Rosary following the 10:00 am Mass and a brief meeting (for coffee and bagels) to follow in the Great Hall. All are welcome and invited.

My S. Stephen’s Ministry: Nancy Gingrich – As the secretary of the St. Stephen, Proto-Martyr branch of the Guild of All Souls, I am happy to take on the responsibility of encouraging our congregation to take advantage of this service. It is a time to remember and give thanks for those souls who have gone before as they continue to learn and grow in understanding. It is my continual affirmation of my belief in the life hereafter and the graciousness of God. For more information, please contact me by email at gingand@cox.net.

George St. Construction finished! – Thanks again for your patience this summer while Brown University carried on its construction work on George Street for its new heating system. After Brown University Convocation, parking at the church should return to normal for the foreseeable future.

Volunteer for Acolyte Rota – S. Stephen’s has a need for some additional volunteers, aged anywhere from 9 to 99, who would like to be trained to serve as acolytes for the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays and for special services throughout the year. Please speak to Richard Noble, who can arrange for training. Thank you!

Altar Flower Offerings – Please consider making an offering of flowers to help beautify our worship of God in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a special event. Arrangements in the church’s brass vases cost $25 each, for a total of $50. Call or email the office to make the arrangements.

Get to know our Interim Rector and the Bible! – Please consider joining Fr. Mead and others from the parish with an informative and entertaining trip through the Acts of the Apostles. The group meets on Sundays in the library from 9 until 9:45 am. Please note that next Sunday, 8 September, will be the last day we gather for this Bible study.

Unable to get to Mass or want to review a sermon? – Sunday sermons are now available on the parish website in text and audio — check it out! While you are at it, spend a few minutes listening to "Mead's Meanderings,” two minutes of pithy observations made each week by our interim rector about S. Stephen's.
