ONLINE PARISH NOTES

SUNDAY 24 AUGUST 2014

Saint Bartholomew

FROM THE RECTOR

During the "Green Season" (also known as "Ordinary Time") of Sundays after Pentecost, the Prayer Book gives us permission to celebrate Saints Days when they fall on a Sunday. (During other liturgical seasons such as Lent and Eastertide, Saints Days falling on a Sunday are transferred to the first available weekday.) This Sunday, August 24, is the Feast of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, so we shall be commemorating him at the 10 am Mass -- wearing red vestments in observance of his martyrdom, and using the readings and prayers appointed for his feast day. (We shall use the normal propers of the Sunday (Proper 16, Year A) at the 8 am Mass.) How does a first-century Apostle such as Bartholomew speak to our world today? That is the question we shall be exploring this Sunday as we keep his feast. Please join us. -- Fr. John D. Alexander
