SUNDAY 31 AUGUST
2014
FROM THE RECTOR
Psychologically, for many of us, the Labor
Day weekend marks the transition from the summer holiday season to the
beginning of another program year in the Church, and another academic year in
schools and universities. For those of us who are in town this weekend, coming
to Mass on Sunday affords a good opportunity to give thanks for the blessings
of the summer that is almost past, and to pray for guidance in our endeavors in the months that lie
ahead.
In addition, the proper readings and prayers
of the Mass on Labor Day itself honor and pray for all who work: especially for
full employment, just wages, and safe working conditions. It being the first
Monday of the month, also, we shall remember the departed of the parish whose
year’s mind falls during September. If you have any other departed loved ones
or friends whom you would like remembered, please let me know. – Fr. John D. Alexander

September Year’s Mind – Departed parishioners
whose anniversaries fall during September will be prayed for at the Labor Day
Mass on Monday 1 September at 9:30
am. If you have any additional names of the departed to be remembered, please let
Fr. Alexander know.
Change in Weekday Mass Schedule – Please note that after Labor Day, the Monday
service schedule will be changed to: Evening Prayer at 5:30 pm, Low Mass at 6

Society of Mary – The Our

Fall Programs – The Schola
Cantorum returns to begin a new season of choral Masses on Sunday 28 September.
The new calendar of events and liturgical music brochures are in the works and
will be mailed in the next few weeks.
Wednesday Afternoon Teas – We are excited to begin offering tea and other refreshments in the
Narthex on Wednesday afternoons at 4pm. We plan to get this experimental
initiative started by mid-September. This is a great opportunity to open the
church to students and passersby, offer hospitality, and enjoy one another’s
company. Any parishioners interested in helping out (for example, by bringing
baked goods, cookies, or cupcakes) are invited to contact Fr. Sawicky. In any
case, drop by, have a cup of tea and say hello! We’ll pack up in time for
Evening Prayer at 5:30.
