PARISH NOTES
Sunday 16 October 2016

Jacob Wrestles with the Angel
Mosaic, c. 1180, Monreale Cathedral, Palermo, Sicily

FROM THE RECTOR

This week's Gospel reading concludes with the question: "Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" (Luke 18:8) It might be said that the Church's mission is to conduct its life and worship so that an affirmative answer may be given to that question. The same Gospel reading begins with Jesus telling his disciples that they "ought always to pray and not lose heart" (Luke 18:1). By our decision every week to persevere in coming to Mass, saying our prayers, and living the Christian life, the Church gradually builds up the answer to the question: "when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?"
-- Fr. John D. Alexander
