ONLINE PARISH NOTES
SUNDAY 11 OCTOBER 2015

Heinrich Hoffman, Jesus and the Rich Young Man, 1889

FROM THE RECTOR

From this Sunday's Gospel, one of the "difficult sayings" of our Lord: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Come join us at Sunday Mass where we will explore the implications of this Gospel and other New Testament passages for the Church's teachings concerning Christian attitudes towards wealth and possessions. -- Fr. John D. Alexander

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Columbus Day (October 12) – As with all public holidays falling on Monday, Low Mass will be offered at 9:30 am, preceded by Morning Prayer at 9 am.

Stewardship Brunch – By now you should have received your invitation to our Brunch to be held on Sunday 25 October following the 10 am Mass. (Please let us know if you have not received an invitation and would like to come; you are definitely welcome to attend if you want to.) Please let us know whether or not you will be able to attend by returning the form enclosed with the letter, by leaving a message with the parish office at 421-6702, ext. 1, or via email to office@sstephens.necoxmail.com. We look forward to seeing you there.

All Souls Day – Requiem for the Commemoration of all Faithful Departed will be kept on Monday 2 November at 6 pm, preceded by Evening Prayer in the Lady Chapel at 5:30 pm. If you would like the names of departed loved ones read at the Mass, please legibly fill out the form included in today’s Kalendar, and either give it to an usher or slip it through the office door mail slot before you leave. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, October 29th.

Goodwill Industries – There is a clothing collection box in the Great Hall for the next few weeks on behalf of Goodwill Industries. One of their objectives is helping people in need to find employment, and to that end, they are accepting donations of clothing suitable for job interviews. If you have anything at home you can spare, please bring it.

Votive Candles – When lighting them please take great care NOT to drop burned matches or pieces of the lighter sticks into the candle holders. Doing so can create a hazardous condition and damage the glass. If you inadvertently do this, please notify one of the clergy immediately. Thank you for your care and cooperation.

Flower Memorial Opportunities – If you would like to order flowers for the High Altar or the statue of our Lady in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for blessings received, the cost per vase for the High Altar is $80 (both vases $160), and $65 for a vase at the Statue of our Lady. Please send a check to the parish office for the amount, and let Cory MacLean know the intentions for which the flowers are offered.
