ONLINE PARISH NOTES

SUNDAY 17 AUGUST 2014

Emblem of the Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate

FROM THE RECTOR

Religious leaders in the United States, including the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, have called on people of faith to observe this Sunday, August 17, as a day of prayer for persecuted Christians and religious minorities in Iraq and elsewhere. Communities of Christians have existed in what is today Syria and Iraq since the earliest spread of the Gospel in the first century AD. They are now faced with genocide at the hands of Islamist extremists (whose teachings and practices are a distortion and perversion of the authentic teachings of Islam). Both Masses at S. Stephen’s this Sunday will be offered with special intentions for their safety and protection. Please join us and show your solidarity with persecuted Iraqi Christians by your prayers and presence. – Fr. John D. Alexander
