Missa Luba

This Sunday, the Feast of Pentecost, the Schola Cantorum will perform the Missa Luba at the 10am Mass. Arranged in 1958 by Belgian Missionary Fr. Guido Haazen, Missa Luba sets the Latin texts of the Ordinary of the Mass -- Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei -- to Congolese rhythms and harmonies. This hauntingly beautiful African Mass setting reminds us that the Gospel -- and indeed the Church's liturgy -- is for all nations and peoples of the earth, a message particularly appropriate for Whitsunday.
